Introduction

Welcome to my Blog! This is the home for my assignments for Mass Media and Society.

My name is Liz Fisher. I am a student at Bemidji State University studying Creative and Professional Writing with a minor in Digital Writing. Unsurprisingly, I enjoy reading and writing in my spare time, as well as stargazing, longboarding, bouldering, listening to and making music. My favorite subjects to study have been modern and postmodern literature, poetic structure, and fan communities.

Here is a quote relating to media and society: "Social media is not just a tool, it's a reflection of who we are." - Eric Qualman

I agree with this quote because it feels especially relevant to the norm of using social media. While it can be an excellent tool for marketing, business, and public relations, the rhetoric that is used on social media tends to value those who reflect their personality in their posts. Furthermore, users' interactions and original creations (including memes and videos) on social media reflect our values as a society. From what "goes viral" to the comments under a post, these are excellent ways to study our interactions and how these expectations are now social standards.
